Exclusive: Sacramento Mayor Darrell Steinberg talks on the election, Measure A and more
We are no longer live. A replay of the exclusive interview is posted above.
Sacramento Mayor Darrell Steinberg will be looking closely election night at the fate of Measure A, the ballot initiative he has championed with all of his political capital. If passed by Sacramento voters, Measure A would strengthen the office of Mayor of Sacramento.
Please join us here at 10:30 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 3, after the polls close for a live discussion with the mayor.
Steinberg has faced strong opposition, particularly from young progressives who do not want administrative power centralized in the hands of one politician.
Also on the ballot is Measure C, a rent control ordinance that Steinberg opposes because he thinks it goes too far. If passed, Measure C would create a rent control board that would be independent of the city council. This board would have the authority to set rents, conduct investigations and enforce penalties for non compliance, among other powers.
As the former leader of the state Senate, Steinberg would also have an informed opinion on the many controversial state initiatives on the ballot. And of course, he is watching the presidential election like the rest of us and would have something to say about what California has to gain or lose depending on the outcome.
We will catch up after an evening of other live interviews with Bee reporters, starting at 6 p.m. The interview with Steinberg is a Bee subscriber exclusive.
