Your guide to California’s Assembly 6th District primary
Maggy Krell overcame a crowded Democratic primary in 2024 on her way to winning a then-open Assembly seat. This time around, the Sacramento Democrat is only facing one challenger, Jagtar Singh, who does not appear to have much of a campaign presence.
Krell, a former Planned Parenthood Affiliates of California attorney, campaigned heavily on her support of abortion rights in 2024, and her first bill authored in the Legislature was designed to increase protections for the distribution of mifepristone, a drug used for abortions.
But Krell has also championed other issues since her election, including a minimum wage for farmworkers, limits on bail agents and a sex crimes bill that led to a tense debate within her party but resulted in a final measure that was close to what she originally wanted.
Where is the district?
The 6th Assembly District includes downtown Sacramento, Natomas, Antelope, Arden Arcade and Land Park.

Singh does not appear to have a campaign website and is listed as a caregiver and business owner on a California Secretary of State candidate list.
Before joining the Legislature, Krell gained recognition for her work as a California deputy attorney general after she pursued legal cases against Backpage.com, a website where people posted advertisements for sex. The website was eventually shut down.
Who is funding the race?
Singh does not have a campaign account that shows any contributions.
Krell had more than $1 million in a campaign account as of mid-April. Law enforcement, real estate, teacher and construction groups have made large contributions to her campaign along with the major corporations Phillips 66, McDonald’s and Walmart.
