Firefighters are responding to a brush and timber fire that started around 3 p.m. northwest of Georgetown, according to Cal Fire.
The Sliger Fire has grown to 75 acres, according to Cal Fire, burning at a moderate rate off Sliger Mine Road and Hilda Way. It was 20 percent contained as of 7:17 p.m.
Evacuations have been ordered on Sliger Mine Road north of Spanish Dry Diggins, west of McKeon Ponderosa Way, and from the Placer County line to Forest Hill Road, according to Cal Fire. A code red notification has been sent out to affected homes.
El Dorado evacuees are being asked to go to the Northside School on 8600 Cave Valley Road. There is also an evacuation center in Placer at the Auburn Recreation District Regional Park Gym. A shelter for the animals of evacuees in El Dorado is at 6435 Capitol Ave., and in North Auburn at 11232 B Ave.
State Route 193 at Slinger Mine Road has been reopened for traffic. Spanish Dry Diggins Road at the airport is only open to evacuees. The Placer Sheriff’s Department is working with CHP to instate precautionary road closures on Foresthill Road at Happy Pines, Cedar View and McKeon Ponderosa Road, according to Andrew Scott, a department spokesman.
Scott said that there is concern the fire will jump the American River and begin burning land in Foresthill. Eleven agencies are working with Cal Fire to contain the fire’s spread. There are six air tankers flying fire suppression missions, as well as 25 engines, three helicopters, and two dozers on scene, according to Cal Fire.
