Firefighters jumped on a vegetation fire that quickly spread to nearly 600 acres in western Tuolomne County and officials say its forward progress has been stopped, according to Cal Fire.

The fire, which has been dubbed the Tulloch Fire, is at 573 acres and 75 percent contained. Cal Fire said the fire along Highway 108 about 3 miles east of Knights Ferry and about 13 miles east of Oakdale, had threatened a nearby turkey farm, says Cal Fire spokesman Dennis Brower.

Cal Fire Tuolomne County said the fire had a “moderate” rate of spread after starting around 2 p.m.
