2 dead in head-on crash near Sacramento International Airport

Two people were killed Friday following a head-on crash overnight on Interstate 5 near Sacramento International Airport, according to the California Highway Patrol.

The collision, which involved a wrong-way driver on southbound I-5, happened shortly before 12:45 a.m. Friday near Power Line Road, CHP North Sacramento spokesman Officer A.J. McTaggart said.

The wrong-way vehicle was a 2003 Subaru Outback driven by a 49-year-old Sonoma man, which struck a 1992 Honda Accord driven by a 60-year-old man. Both drivers died at the scene, McTaggart said. The Sacramento County Coroner’s Office identified the Accord driver as James Raymond Fristoe, 60, Bieber.

A passenger in the Honda, a 56-year-old woman, was taken to UC Davis Medical Center with serious injuries.

Southbound I-5 was closed several hours for investigation but has since reopened.
