Video shows Sacramento couple rescue kitten bobbing in rising, rapidly flowing creek

A video shows a couple rescuing a kitten adrift in a rapidly flowing, flooded creek near their home in Sacramento on Sunday as heavy rainfall caused water levels in rivers and streams to rise around Northern California.

Skip Campbell told Storyful that he and his wife Nancy discovered the kitten when they went outside to check on the rising water levels in Cottage Park in the Arden Arcade area.

Nancy heard a faint sound coming from the creek and told her husband something seemed to be bobbing up and down in the water. The video shows Skip jumping into action, taking off his shoes and heading into the water, where he was able to rescue the soaking wet kitten. He holds the feline up to the camera as the kitty cries out.

“We love that we were in the right place at the right time to save this kitty,” Skip told Storyful.

The couple took the kitten back to their home and are currently deciding whether to keep it or find it another loving home, according to Storyful.

In another weather-related incident, fire crews rescued two people from the Cosumnes River Preserve near Galt on Wednesday evening, authorities said.

A bomb cyclone and atmospheric river doused a parched Northern California last weekend and brought the most rainfall to Sacramento in a 24-hour period Sunday, breaking a record that’s held since 1880.
