Dense morning fog descends on Sacramento, drops visibility on highways

Thick morning fog may impact morning commutes this week in the Sacramento region.

The National Weather Service has issued a dense fog advisory for much of the Sacramento, Stockton and Modesto areas, in place through 10 a.m. Wednesday.

The NWS Sacramento Office tweeted photos showing thick fog around 5 a.m. on Highway 50, Interstate 80 and the Capital City Freeway.

Visibility is reported at about a quarter-mile, according to the weather service.

Fog is expected for the next several days, local weather service forecasts show, with patchy fog expected near Sacramento each morning through Thursday. High temperatures will warm up to around 70 degrees, with overnight lows in the upper 40s.

In foggy conditions, drivers are advised to reduce speed and avoid using high-beams.
