It might snow in Auburn and Sacramento soon. Here’s when flurries may fall in the area
It’s expected to snow in Auburn and Sacramento next week, according to the National Weather Service Sacramento office.
The National Weather Service initially forecast snowfall to start in Auburn Monday night into Tuesday. But new forecasts show flurries are expected to fall early Sunday morning, coupled with rain and clouds. Sacramento might see snow Tuesday as the cold front pushes snow levels down through the weekend.
“It is still pretty far out so the confidence at this time is pretty low with that, but its something we are keeping an eye on for sure,” said weather service meteorologist Katrina Hand.
The National Weather Service said Thursday in a tweet the snow level will likely be around 1,000 feet for the storm arriving Tuesday, but the level could fall to 500 feet or less.
Hand said Sacramento’s snowfall probably won’t accumulate on the ground as much as Auburn’s flurries.
NWS meteorologist Eric Kurth said while snow isn’t rare for Auburn, it is uncommon enough that residents should be on extra alert through the weekend.
Here’s a closer look into Auburn and Sacramento’s forecast leading into early next week, as of Dec. 23, according to the National Weather Service:
