Light rain showers, along with cooler temperatures, are predicted to pass through the Sacramento area Monday and Tuesday, according to the National Weather Service.
The weather service predicts rain Monday afternoon, mainly after 5 p.m., amounting to less than a tenth of an inch, and possible thunderstorms, which could mean a higher total amount of rain.
Rain showers may occur again from 8 p.m. to 10 p.m. Monday night, and gusts could get as high as 22 mph. Temperatures may dip as low as 42 degrees, according to the weather service.
These storms may bring in gusty winds, lightning and small amounts of hail to the region.
On Tuesday, rain showers may occur as early as 11 a.m., with lighter winds.
May showers are typical for the area, and this one would mark a colder than usual storm for Sacramento, said weather service meteorologist Hannah Chandler-Cooley.
The small amount of rain predicted would probably have a negligible effect on the area’s drought, Chandler-Cooley said.
In the case of hail accumulating during the possible storm, the weather service advises people to stay inside and cautions drivers to be careful on the road.
