Bundle up: Frost advisory issued for Sacramento as overnight temperatures plummet

Protect your plants, your pets and yourselves, Sacramento: Temperatures will approach freezing early Friday morning, according to forecasters.

The National Weather Service has issued a frost advisory for the northern and central portions of the Sacramento Valley, including the city of Sacramento, in place from 2 a.m. to 9 a.m.

The capital city is expected to cool down to about 39 degrees overnight, according to the weather service. Other parts of the valley could see temperatures fall close to 30 degrees.

During a frost advisory, residents can take a number of steps to guard their gardens. These include watering plants lightly in the late afternoon or early evening; wrapping shrubs with rags or towels; or using heat caps or even old-fashioned holiday lights to keep the frost at bay.

Residents should also make sure any outdoor pets have sufficient shelter from the cold.

Daytime highs near Sacramento will remain in the low 60s through the weekend, with a chance of showers also returning this weekend. The best chance of rain will be Saturday night.
