Sacramento temps to drop below freezing as more rain blasts capital city. Here’s the latest

Another winter chill will slam Sacramento with low temperatures, wind and rain this week.

The National Weather Service issued a wind advisory until 4 p.m. Monday, with southern winds expected at 16 to 22 mph, and gusts up to 33 mph.

Temperatures during the day will be around 49 degrees with a 100% chance of rain, potentially totaling between a quarter and half of an inch.

There may be thunderstorms Monday night. The low is around 38, winds are forecast at 10 to 13 mph, with gusts as high as 20 mph.

The rest of the week

Chilly weather and rain continue throughout the week.

You can expect showers before 4 p.m. and again before 10 p.m. Tuesday. Highs are around 50 with gusts up to 28 mph. Lows are near 31 with gusts up to 21 mph at night.

The weather service forecasts widespread frost from Tuesday night to Friday morning.

There will be some sunshine and clear skies mid-week from Wednesday to Friday. Highs are in the 50s, with Friday forecast the warmest day at 58. Lows range from 29 to 39.

A chance of showers returns Saturday and Sunday.

Sacramento region forecast

In Yolo, conditions for the University Airport area show a wind advisory for Monday until 4 p.m. Rain and thunderstorms are possible between 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. Highs are near 49 with gusts up to 32 mph; lows are around 35 with gusts up to 18 mph.

Showers and thunderstorms are possible Tuesday, but sunny days will return from Wednesday to Friday. There’s a chance of showers on the weekend.

In neighboring Placer County, expect rain throughout Monday to Tuesday night and a chance of showers over the weekend.

The National Weather Service is predicting 3 to 7 feet of snow above elevation of 3000 feet in the foothills of Placer and El Dorado counties.

Another 1 to 3 feet of snow is expected between 2,000 and 3,000-foot elevation and 1 to 5 inches is expected in the northern Sacramento Valley through Wednesday.

The winter storm is bringing extreme conditions to the Sierra, with mountain travel expected to be impossible through midweek as a rare blizzard warning is issued for the greater Tahoe region.
