If you’re not quite ready to face the scorching summer heat, you’re in luck.

This week, Sacramentans will experience colder-than-normal temperatures and breezy winds through the weekend, as a cool air mass moving from the Pacific Northwest lingers over the region.

The high temperature in Sacramento was 76 degrees on Monday — 14 degrees below average, according to Scott Rowe, a meteorologist with the National Weather Service.

Temperatures will drop to the low 50s overnight in Sacramento, with some lower-lying areas of the valley seeing temperatures dip into the 40s, Rowe said.

Some high-elevation areas in Siskiyou and Humboldt counties were hit with light rain on Monday, totaling about a tenth of an inch.

“There are no triple-digit days in sight,” Rowe said. “... But of course, we are approaching the solstice on Wednesday, so it will eventually get hot again — it’s just a question as to when.”

Although Monday is expected to be the coldest day of the week, forecasts indicate that temperatures won’t rise above the mid-80s through at least Sunday.
