Nearly an inch of rain dumps on Sacramento as city ties winter heat record
More than three-quarters of an inch of rain fell from the latest storm as Sacramento tied its all-time high temperature on Friday, the National Weather Service reported.
Friday’s high temperature of 68 degrees tied the record set in 2014, up 12 degrees from the average Dec. 6 temperature in Sacramento. Saturday’s high of 67, also matched the record high for the same date in 1988. An atmospheric river began rolling into the region around 4 p.m. Friday, dropping snow around 6,000 feet and rain throughout the valley.
Most of Yolo County got about a half-inch of rain from Friday afternoon to Saturday afternoon, while some parts of Placer and El Dorado counties got more than an inch-and-a-half.
In Lake Tahoe, 7 inches of snow dropped at Homewood Mountain Resort, followed by 6 inches at Northstar, Sugar Bowl and Squaw Valley. Chains or snow tires are required from Bliss State Park in El Dorado County to the town of Tahoma in Placer County.
The atmospheric river should continue hitting Northern California into Sunday afternoon, totaling up to 2½ inches of rain in Sacramento, according to NWS projections.
