Washington sophomore Jake Browning has been putting up some eye-popping numbers this season.

The Folsom High School graduate set a school record with six touchdown passes last weekend in a 70-21 victory over Oregon, the Huskies’ first win over the Ducks in 13 meetings. Browning also ran for two scores in the rout.

With an NCAA Division I-leading 23 touchdown passes and just two interceptions, Browning is tops in the nation with a 204.9 quarterback rating, 0.9 points better than Toledo’s Logan Woodside. Browning has also run for three scores this season.

The nation has taken notice.

Browning was ranked third in The Associated Press’ latest Heisman Watch, although the informal poll has no actual voters.

Washington is idle this week but will return to action Oct. 22 at home against Oregon State.

Browning’s yards total isn’t elite (33rd in the nation). However, his 23 touchdown passes are one better than Cal’s Davis Webb, and he’s third in completion percentage. Patrick Mahomes II of Texas Tech leads the nation with 2,274 yards, 18 better than Webb.
