Sports Night: Sonny Gray misses start as A’s lose

A’s: Gray sits out loss

The A’s lose to the Rockies 2-1 without ace Sonny Gray, scratched from his scheduled start before the game because of illness.

A’s: They take look at Martin

Oakland’s first-round draft pick Richie Martin, a shortstop from the University of Florida, agrees to terms, is introduced around, puts on a uniform and takes batting practice.

Giants: Posey’s homer not enough

Dee Gordon’s inside-the-park home run trumps Buster Posey’s out-of-the-park homer as the Giants lose 5-3 to the Marlins in Miami. The loss leaves the Giants with a 12-14 record in June. Manager Bruce Bochy says it could be worse for the injury-plagued World Series champions. “I’m not happy with it, but we’re trying to hold ground here,” Bochy says. “We’re not playing with a full deck right now. To almost have a .500 month, that’s not bad.”

River Cats: They shut out Salt Lake

Nik Turley and Cody Hall combine on a five-hitter as the River Cats defeat the Salt Lake Bees 4-0 at Raley Field. Turley picks up the win, allowing three hits and striking out eight in six innings.

Kings: The churn continues

Jason Thompson has been around for multiple relocation rumors, played for seven coaches and has seen his name attached to trades on a seemingly daily basis. So he’s unfazed by the report, which has been denied by Kings principal owner Vivek Ranadive, that the Kings are interested in Kentucky coach John Calipari.
