Kings: Divac says team should be competitive

Vlade Divac likes his roster as the Kings head off to Las Vegas Summer League play. The team’s vice president of basketball and franchise operations is still looking for ways to improve but said the current group can contend for the playoffs. The Kings have not had a winning season or playoff appearance in nine years.

A’s: Close calls hurt in loss

Cole Figueroa hits a one-hopper just over the inside corner of first base that umpires call fair. Two pitches later, Jacoby Ellsbury pulls another changeup from Jesse Chavez over the very same spot for a tiebreaking two-run single. “I thought it was foul. The first one I thought for sure,” A’s manager Bob Melvin says after the 6-2 loss to the New York Yankees.
