A season after throwing a high school national record-tying 91 touchdown passes for Folsom, there’s a growing sense from Seattle to the greater Sacramento area that Jake Browning has won the starting job as a freshman for the Washington Huskies, who begin the season Friday at No. 23 Boise State on ESPN.

49ers: 10 waived in effort to reach 75-player limit

Among the players the 49ers released Monday – and no, former rugby star Jarryd Hayne was not among them – were promising kicker Corey Acosta and former British discus thrower Lawrence Okoye, a defensive end. Center Daniel Kilgore was among four players put on injury lists.

Kings: Vlade Divac named general manager

Vlade Divac, hired in March by the Kings as vice president of basketball and franchise operations, has added the title of general manager, the team announced. Former Kings All-Star forward Peja Stojakovic has been hired as the team’s director of player personnel and development.

Mark Canha hits 3-run HR as A’s beat Angels 11-5

Mark Canha hit a three-run homer, Jake Smolinski's three-run double highlighted a decisive third inning and the Oakland Athletics beat the Los Angeles Angels 11-5 on Monday in another quirky night at the Coliseum when part of the outfield wall fell down and delayed the game.
