Giants: Dodgers’ Kershaw strikes out 15

A’s: Gray is hit hard by Angels

All-Star right-hander Sonny Gray is off form in Oakland’s 9-4 loss to the Los Angeles Angels. He loses his third consecutive decision and matches his career high with six earned runs allowed for the first time since a year earlier on Sept. 2, 2014, at Seattle.

UC Davis football: Aggies hope to hit jackpot in Reno

UC Davis kicks off its season Thursday night at Nevada, the first of two Football Bowl Subdivision programs the Aggies will face this season. UC Davis is coming off a 2-9 season – its worst finish since 1960 – though it returns 66 letter winners and 14 starters.

Furillo: River Cats to welcome sports neighbors

For 16 years, the area near downtown Sacramento has belonged solely to the region’s minor-league baseball team. Soon, it will be shared with one big-league professional club (the Kings), and possibly two (if the city lands a Major League Soccer squad).

River Cats: Dramatic win

Trevor Brown’s two-out, two-run homer in the ninth inning gives the host River Cats a 5-4 win over Reno.

Hockey: Coming to Raley Field

Raley Field will host a regular-season American Hockey League game between the Stockton Heat and the Bakersfield Condors on Dec. 18. The outdoor game is part of a six-week event at the park.
