The high school football season kicked off Friday night in California, including a full menu of games in the Sacramento area in unseasonably cool conditions. The weather was a stark contrast from previous years when opening night was heavy with wildfire smoke and/or 102-degree temperatures.

Football is king in Placer County, including in Auburn where the Bee No. 10-ranked Placer Hillmen hosted the No. 9 Casa Roble Rams of Orangevale. The Bee was there. Blocking and tackling quickly became a thing at new schools West Park in Roseville, which played Whitney of Rocklin on Friday, and Twelve Bridges of Lincoln, which hosted Christian Brothers in another game The Bee covered.

Folsom, ranked No. 1 by The Bee, took on the winningest team in state history in the state-ranked Long Beach Poly Jackrabbits. The Bee was there, too, to cover one of the marquee games on the state schedule.

The Bee covered five games on Friday. We also have you covered with a comprehensive list of Friday night’s scores and next week’s schedule.

Next week’s highlight games include: Serra of San Mateo at Folsom; Grant at storied De La Salle in Concord; West Park at Casa Roble; Oak Ridge at Southern California power San Clemente; Vacaville at Granite Bay; Rio Americano at Jesuit; Monterey Trail at Bay Area power Pittsburg; and Bradshaw Christian at Vista del Lago, among others.
