There was a moment in the third quarter where it appeared the Roseville Tigers may cede control of the game to their league rival, Del Campo, on Friday night.

Del Campo took advantage of one of three fumbles from the home team, scoring a touchdown and giving them 14 consecutive points. The Cougars took a three-point lead minutes after being down by 10 at halftime.

“We just couldn’t get out of our own way,” said Roseville coach Adam Reinking. “We talked about it a lot. We’re the only team that can beat us.”

Roseville then put the accelerator down, getting two touchdowns from junior playmaker Kenny McClure and another from senior Grahm Dahle. Mason Susnara passed for 187 yards and three touchdowns for the Tigers, who finished the game on a 21-0 jolt and won 38-20 on their Senior Night in front of a packed home crowd.

“Once we finally got the ball in the third quarter, our offense was able to put some drives together and just do some Roseville football,” Reinking said. “We ran the ball, we leaned on our offensive line, set up the big passes. So I’m just proud of our group.”

The Tigers improved to 5-2 overall and 2-1 in the Foothill Valley League. They’re second in the league behind Twelve Bridges, who handled Nevada Union, 55-7, on Friday night to remain unbeaten in FVL play.

Dahle scored two touchdowns on the night with his first coming on a 40-yard run along the right sideline in the second quarter. He rushed for 107 yards and had 77 receiving. Receiver JJ Yong also had a touchdown and made a long catch in the fourth quarter that set up another touchdown during Roseville’s run.

The Cougars dropped to 4-3 on the season and 0-3 in league play. Junior running back Bryce Smith scored all three of their touchdowns, including one on a fourth-and-goal from the 1-yard line in the fourth quarter.

It was the Tigers’ skill players and defense coming together in the fourth quarter that spurred the Tigers to the win.

“They make me look really good,” Reinking said of McClure, Dahle and Yong. “I call plays, and they make plays for us. There’s one football, and a lot of those guys get the ball, and they do a really good job of not being selfish. Even though they want the ball, they support each other, they block for each other.”

Roseville next week travels to play Nevada Union (5-3) while Del Campo visits Yuba City (5-2).
