The Athletics continued their recent hot stretch with a 10-inning, walk-off win Tuesday night over the Detroit Tigers, securing a series victory at Sutter Health Park against the team with the best record in the American League.

A’s rookie infielder Darell Hernaiz drove in Tyler Soderstrom on a bases-loaded walk to finish off a two-run rally in the bottom of the 10th inning.

Soderstrom had driven in Brent Rooker, the runner automatically placed on second base to start the extra inning, on a leadoff single to tie the game at 6-6. Following two other walks and a sacrifice bunt, Hernaiz walked on five pitches from Tigers reliever Will Vest.

A’s shortstop Jacob Wilson hit a three-run home run in the first inning off Tigers starter Charlie Morton to open the scoring. Tigers left fielder Riley Greene blasted a 471-foot grand slam in the top of the third to give Detroit a 4-3 lead.

The A’s overcame that brief deficit with a two-run rally in the bottom of the frame before Tigers third baseman Colt Keith homered in the fifth, tying the score at 5-5 where it remained until the 10th.

A’s starter Osvaldo Bido gave up four earned runs, all on the grand slam, in three innings pitched. Six relievers combined to pitch seven innings of two-run ball, with the Tigers scoring an unearned run via their automatic baserunner in the 10th.

The A’s, 62-72 on the season after Tuesday’s win, have won 20 of their last 30 games and seven of their last 10 series. The Tigers dropped to 78-56, which remains the best record in the American League.

On Monday night, Langeliers launched a seventh-inning, go-ahead grand slam against the reigning AL Cy Young Award winner, Tigers starter Tarik Skubal, en route to an 8-3 comeback win.

Another win Wednesday would give the A’s their first series sweep in West Sacramento, where the team is playing its home games this season through at least 2027. The team plans to move to a new stadium on the Las Vegas strip in 2028.

Wednesday’s game starts at 7:05 p.m. Luis Morales (1-0, 1.72 ERA) will start for the A’s against the Tigers’ Casey Mize (12-4, 3.68).
