NBA All-Star Weekend returns to Bay Area: Sacramento ties, events, travel and tickets
Basketball fans will make their way to the Bay Area for the NBA All-Star Weekend, featuring several events over a three-day span.
The All-Star Weekend, which showcases the best players in the league, has been held annually since 1951 in various NBA cities across the United States and Canada.
In 2025, the yearly star-studded festival will be held at venues in San Francisco and Oakland.
The All-Star Weekend is returning to the Bay Area after more than two decades. Oakland hosted the hoops spectacular in 2000.

The NBA All-Star Weekend runs Friday, Feb. 14, through Sunday, Feb. 16, at locations across San Francisco and Oakland.

Friday, Feb. 14
NBA Crossover: This ultimate fan experience includes multiple basketball courts, exclusive merchandise, interactive experiences and NBA player appearances.
Time: Noon to 8 p.m.
Location: George R. Moscone Convention Center, 747 Howard St., San Francisco
Price: $40, $20 children ages 12 and under. Three-day weekend packages are $125, or $250 for VIP passes and $50 for kids. More information is available online.
NBA Champions Table: The first-ever NBA All-Star culinary experience is taking place in the Bay Area. Patrons can taste four curated dishes created by nationally-known celebrity chefs.

Ruffles NBA All-Star Celebrity Game: The NBA All-Star Celebrity Game features retired NBA players, WNBA players, as well as actors, musicians and athletes who are known for their passion for hoops. It was first played in 2003.

Will Sacramento Kings players be there?
No Sacramento Kings players were invited to participate in the 2025 NBA All-Star Weekend, but that doesn’t mean the capital region won’t be represented.
Retired NBA player Matt Barnes, who grew up in Sacramento, will compete in the Ruffles NBA All-Star Celebrity Game on Friday, Feb. 14, for Team Rice, coached by San Francisco 49ers legend Jerry Rice.
Following the All-Star Celebrity Game is the Castrol Rising Stars game featuring the NBA’s best young talent.
Memphis Grizzlies guard Jaylen Wells will participate in the game playing for Team C, coached by former Golden State Warriors forward Chris Mullin.
Wells grew up in Sacramento, starring in hoops at Folsom High School and becoming a Bee Player of the Year before carving a collegiate career at Sonoma State and Washington State. He was selected in the second round of the 2024 NBA Draft as the 39th overall pick. He averages 11.1 points, 3.2 rebounds on 44% shooting, including 37% from three.
Wells is ranked No. 3 on the NBA’s Kia Rookie Ladder behind Grizzlies teammate Zach Edey and San Antonio Spurs guard Stephon Castle. All three will be teammates during the Castrol Rising Stars game.
What’s the best way to get to the Bay Area from Sacramento?
There are various ways to get from Sacramento to the Bay Area.
It takes about an hour and half to drive from the capital city to San Francisco, which is less than 100 miles.
Although it’s possible to make the trip on one full tank of gasoline, you might need to fuel up. A gallon of regular unleaded gas costs an average of $4.74 in California, according to AAA.
Amtrak train rides start from Sacramento to Oakland start at $29, or $35 heading from Sacramento to San Francisco.
The Capitol Corridor picks passengers up in Sacramento and makes stops through cities in the Bay Area, reaching San Francisco as a final stop.
As a last-ditch effort, you could use a rideshare service such as Uber or Lyft.
The average Uber rideshare from Sacramento to San Francisco costs $129, the company said. Prices may differ depending on traffic conditions, time of day, surge pricing and additional fees.
