Sacramento Kings lose last home game of the season to the New Orleans Pelicans
Kings fans are still the most miserable in all of professional sports, according to the updated ESPN.com Fan Misery Index.
A new set of rankings were released Tuesday morning. The Kings maintained the top spot, followed by the San Diego Padres, Buffalo Bills, Florida Panthers, Cleveland Browns, New York Jets, Chicago White Sox, Miami Dolphins, Cincinnati Reds and Buffalo Sabres.
The Fan Misery Index ranks all 123 NBA, NFL, MLB and NHL teams. Rankings are based on championships, playoff appearances, playoff wins, heartbreaks and rival comparisons — a formula for disaster for Kings fans.
ESPN.com noted that the Kings, who have not been to the playoffs since 2006, are mired in the NBA’s longest postseason drought. They have not won a playoff series since 2004; have not won a championship since moving to Sacramento in 1985; and fans have been forced to stomach the sight of two Pacific Division rivals, the Los Angeles Lakers and Golden State Warriors, winning multiple championships over the past two decades.
However, the website opined that Kings fans finally have reason for optimism after watching the team post its highest win total since 2005-06, noting: “For the first time in a while, there’s hope. The Kings’ young core jelled nicely this season. The Kings didn’t make the playoffs and will remain in this spot for now, but there’s actually hope.”
