Sacramento Kings starter undergoes surgery. Will he be healthy next season?
Sacramento Kings forward Keegan Murray missed most of the 2025-26 NBA season due to injuries. After undergoing surgery on Tuesday, he will miss much of the summer as well.
The Kings announced that Murray had arthroscopic surgery to remove loose bodies in his left ankle. The minimally invasive procedure was performed by Dr. David Porter in Carmel, Indiana.
The Kings said Murray will be reevaluated in six to eight weeks. Barring setbacks, he could be ready to resume basketball activities by mid-July with training camp scheduled to begin in late September.
Murray, who came out of Iowa as the No. 4 pick in the 2022 NBA draft, missed 59 games due to thumb, calf and ankle injuries this season. He appeared in 23 games, averaging 14.0 points, 5.7 rebounds, 1.7 assists, 1.6 blocks and 1.0 steals while shooting career lows of 42% from the field and 27.7% from 3-point range.
Murray was sidelined at the start of the season after undergoing surgery to the ulnar collateral ligament in his left thumb. He missed 20 games after spraining his left ankle in early January. Murray appeared in only four games before reinjuring the ankle, which caused him to miss the last 22 games of the season.
The Kings were ravaged by injuries to a number of key players, forcing coach Doug Christie to deploy 35 different starting lineups. The team struggled throughout the season, going 22-60 to miss the playoffs for the 19th time in the past 20 seasons.
Russell Westbrook missed 18 games, Malik Monk missed 20 games, Zach LaVine missed 43 games, and Domantas Sabonis missed 63 games.
