At 94, this cancer survivor is ready to run a half marathon
She’s the oldest woman to ever run a marathon, and on Sunday, she’ll take a shot at the half marathon record.
Harriette Thompson, 94, plans to run in the Rock ‘n’ Roll San Diego half marathon Sunday, according to the San Diego Union-Tribune.
“I try to maintain the attitude, ‘It’s a piece of cake,’ ” Thompson – a two-time cancer survivor – told the Union-Tribune.
In 2015, a 92-year-old Thompson became the oldest woman to complete a full marathon, doing so at the same event in San Diego.
A North Carolina native, Thompson in March told the Charlotte Observer that she didn’t run at all in 2016. She missed that year’s installment of the race, as cancer treatments made running unbearably painful.
Thompson ran her first marathon at age 76, and has finished 16 of them, all in an effort to raise money for the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society, according to the Union-Tribune.
