Guided hikes, other excursions in state parks on New Year’s Day

The California State Parks system is organizing guided hiking and other excursions in 41 parks on New Year’s Day as part of its fourth annual First Day Hikes program.

There will be 56 hikes, a rafting trip and several off-highway vehicle rides as part of the statewide program. In Sacramento County, visitors can take a strenuous 5-mile hike through Folsom Lake State Recreation Area starting at 8:45 a.m., or an easier 1.5-mile hike through Folsom Powerhouse State Historic Park taking off at 10 a.m.
