Utility explosion closes Highway 50 at Stateline in Lake Tahoe
Highway 50 through Stateline, in front of the Hard Rock Cafe in South Lake Tahoe, remains closed in both directions after an underground "power component" exploded, according to the Nevada Highway Patrol.
The blast occurred around 5 a.m. Sunday. The highway will be closed for "an extended period of time," the Highway Patrol said. Using alternate routes is advised.
Nevada Highway Patrol said there were no injuries.
NV Energy is on the scene repairing the equipment, as well as Southwest Gas.
Pedestrians and vehicle traffic are not allowed near the scene. Highway 50 is closed from Lake Parkway to Stateline.
Nearly 400 customers were without power as a result of the explosion, according to the Tahoe Tribune.
