Vibrant photos and paintings are the best of Second Saturday in Sacramento

"Once Upon a Time,” Jack Ogden’s large-scale painting of Joseph P. Kennedy Sr. (father of JFK) and his large family in 1938, with images from Diego Velasquez’s famous painting of the Spanish Royal family, “Las Meninas,” sneaking in at the edges, is the centerpiece of the prominent Northern California painter’s solo show of oil paintings and wood sculptures at b. sakata garo, 923 20th St. 916-447-4276.

“Orange Farm Fields,” a rich, semi-abstracted landscape by Timothy Mulligan, is one of the vibrant paintings in his new series, “Colorful Escapes,” at Elliott Fouts Gallery, 1831 P St. 916-736-1429.
