Storms stall search for missing plane near Tahoe
A Cessna aircraft returning to Sacramento from Idaho was reported missing Saturday evening, the Civil Air Patrol said Sunday afternoon.
Emergency personnel were not able to search for the aircraft Saturday or Sunday because of stormy weather. “Unfortunately, weather was not cooperating,” said Jon Stokes, spokesman for the Civil Air Patrol.
He said the patrol was assembling search crews for Monday.
The pilot, who was not identified, was the lone occupant of the plane, according to a news release.
The last known position of the Cessna is a rugged area of the Sierra Nevada, southwest of Lake Tahoe.
The El Dorado County Sheriff’s Department and several Air Force rescue coordinators were initially informed about the missing plane by the governor’s Office of Emergency Services.
