Big rig crash, fire close eastbound lanes of I-80 near Boreal
All eastbound lanes of Interstate 80 just east of the Boreal ski resort were temporarily closed due to a single tractor-trailer truck accident and fire Sunday afternoon, according to authorities.
Photos on a California Highway Patrol Twitter post show a seemingly disabled Walmart truck stretching across the eastbound lanes. Fire is clearly visible.
In a post made shortly after 4:15 p.m., CHP called it a “non-injury truck collision.”
A 4:10 p.m. post by Caltrans District 3 likewise reported a solo big rig crash and fire blocking the eastbound lanes of I-80 “at the 60 mile turn near Donner Lake.”
CHP and Caltrans said one lane reopened at around 4:45 p.m., but officials reported slow going as the scene was being cleared. At 6:40 p.m., Caltrans reported that all eastbound lanes had reopened.
Officials said the driver of the truck was not injured, and the cause of the big rig fire is being investigated.
