Boy in critical condition after fire completely engulfs vehicle in Northern California
A boy is in critical condition at a Sacramento hospital after he suffered severe burns Tuesday in Nevada City when a fire erupted in a vehicle.
The Nevada City Police Department was called about 1:30 p.m. to 170 Ridge Road after getting a report of a person suffering injuries from a vehicle on fire, the department said in a social media post.
Officers at the scene found a small sedan engulfed in flames and a child under the age of 5 with extensive burns throughout his body, police said online.
A preliminary investigation showed the boy was sitting in his car sear in the vehicle’s backseat when a fire broke out on the passenger side, police said.
The child’s mother and another person pulled the boy from the flames, and the child was airlifted to UC Davis Medical Center, police said.
The cause of the fire is under investigation.
