A Woodland resident was hospitalized in stable condition Thursday after being pulled from a burning house by other occupants of the home.

The fire broke out early in the morning on the 100 block of First Street, prompting a joint response from Woodland fire and police departments.

Authorities said the victim was rescued from inside the structure by residents and brought onto the front porch by others in the home. Woodland police officers then carried the person to the front lawn and emergency crews transported the individual to UC Davis Medical Center for burn treatment.

Two dogs and a cat also survived the blaze.

The cause of the blaze is under investigation, and firefighters said the home had only one working smoke detector.

Firefighters recommend installing alarms in every bedroom, outside of sleeping areas and on every level of a home.
