SMUD reports power restored following massive outage

The Sacramento Municipal Utility District reports that power has been restored to 78,600 customers following an hourlong outage, largely in the Citrus Heights area.

The outage occurred about 8 p.m. when power went out at the Orangevale substation, said Jonathon Tudor, a SMUD spokesman. He said he believes the outage was caused by a malfunction in a piece of equipment at the substation. Power had to be rerouted around that substation.

In addition to Citrus Heights, the outage affected customers in southwest Folsom, as well as portions of Rancho Cordova and Carmichael, he said.

SMUD reported restored to all affected customers by 9:12 p.m.
