Citrus Heights resident dies in I-80 motorcycle collision

A 38-year-old Citrus Heights man died after crashing into two cars outside Roseville on Sunday.

The motorcyclist was splitting lanes between cars at 5:35 p.m. as he entered westbound I-80 from southbound State Route 65, according to a California Highway Patrol media release.

He was identified Monday by the Placer County Sheriff/Coroner’s Office as Ruben James Puga.

As he sped through congested traffic toward the center of the freeway, Puga sideswiped a 2009 Lexus IS250, causing him to veer out of control and slam into the back bumper of a 2006 Porsche Cayenne. He flew off of his 2007 Suzuki and fell to the ground, and was later pronounced dead by authorities.

Westbound lanes 1, 2 and 4 were temporarily blocked off as the crash was investigated. Neither the Lexus driver nor the Porsche driver were arrested.
