Teen dies of multiple gunshot wounds in south Sacramento County
Sacramento police are investigating the death of teenager who died of multiple gunshot wounds early Thursday morning in front of a south Sacramento County home.
Officers first received reports of gunfire near Edgeware Way and Harrow Drive around 12:45 a.m. Thursday. Police dispatched to the area located an unresponsive minor in the front yard of a home in the neighborhood, according to Bryce Heinlein, a spokesman for the Sacramento Police Department. The victim had multiple life-threatening gunshot wounds, he said.
The teen was pronounced dead at the scene. Police did not immediately have an exact age for the victim.
Police said that they have not yet identified the victim and could not say how many times he was shot or the location of his gunshot wounds. Officers do not have a motive for the killing or any suspects in custody and believed the homicide did not cause an immediate threat to the surrounding vicinity.
Heinlein said detectives were still out on the scene around 9:30 a.m. He urged anyone with information about the homicide to contact the police.
“It did happen in a residential neighborhood in the middle of the night,” Heinlein said. “We don't know if there were people out and about who may have seen something.”
Witness with information regarding the homicide are encouraged to call the dispatch center at 916-264-5471 or Crime Alert at 916-443-HELP. They can also submit an anonymous tip using the free “P3 Tips” smartphone app. Callers can remain anonymous and may be eligible for a reward of up to $1,000.
