See where Sacramento has installed police surveillance cameras

The city of Sacramento had 33 police observation devices, also known as PODs, installed at intersections around the city as of late August. The devices are rotated through major intersections. Another 20 are set to be installed at downtown locations near Golden 1 Center before the arena opens in October.

The PODs have cameras that record what happens in the intersection, as well as a license plate reader device that sends the license plate numbers of passing vehicles to a database that police can search by time, date and location. Officers in patrol cars have access to the database via their in-car computers.

This interactive map shows the locations of the PODs as of late August. Click on the dots to see the cross streets.
