Flying out of Sacramento? A new TSA rule awaits

A new security regulation being rolled out nationwide has reached Sacramento International Airport.

Passengers carrying electronic devices larger than a cell phone, such as tablets, e-readers and video game consoles, are now required to place their items in separate bins independent of all other baggage. The added step allows Transportation Security Administration agents to scan carry-on bags more easily, according to a TSA news release.

Sacramento International Airport officials are recommending passengers arrive at their terminal two hours before their flight departs in anticipation of added delays.

The security measure was tested at 10 locations before expansion to all U.S. airports began this summer. It does not apply to TSA Pre-Check passengers.
