Unmasked: See who owns every California nursing home - and how those homes stack up
Almost half of the nursing home beds in California are operated by just 25 large chains, but they often make it hard to see which homes they own.
This database, built from a combination of state and federal sources, shows who owns what California facilities - and provides several key quality indicators for each nursing home and chain. It was created using data obtained in early 2014 from the California HealthCare Foundation, the U.S. Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services and other sources. It will be updated with 2015 data later this year.
