When word got out Friday that the Boston Red Sox designated third baseman Pablo Sandoval for assignment, the reaction was swift on Twitter.

Sandoval became a cult hero for the San Francisco Giants, especially after winning the World Series MVP in 2012. In November 2014, Sandoval spurned the Giants by signing a five-year, $95 million free agent contract with the Red Sox.

His production in Boston? He played 161 games, amassed 575 at-bats, 136 hits and 14 homers. Not surprisingly, his departure from the Red Sox was not heralded.
