Report card: 49ers put up fight but again leave Seattle with loss
Offense: The 2017 49ers became the first team in franchise history to fail to score a touchdown in the first two contests. A silver lining: A running game that was solid against Carolina looked very good in Seattle. Carlos Hyde rushed for 124 yards, including a career-long run of 61 yards. Grade: C-
Defense: The 49ers held the Seahawks out of the end zone until late in the fourth quarter and frustrated quarterback Russell Wilson for chunks of the game. But the Seahawks ran 79 offensive plays vs. 48 for San Francisco and the 49ers eventually wore down late. Grade: B
Special teams: Preseason hero Victor Bolden Jr. gave the team a boost with a 34-yard kickoff return in the first quarter. Trent Taylor, meanwhile, was sure-handed in the rain on punt returns, including a 21-yarder in the second quarter. Robbie Gould was 3 for 3 on field goals. Grade: A
Overall: The outcome was the same as San Francisco’s last six games in Seattle. But their three-point margin of defeat shows that the gap between the two teams may not be as large as it’s recently been. The 49ers dropped their last six games in Seattle by an average of 17.7 points. Grade: C+
