Pedestrian killed walking on Highway 16 west of Woodland early Tuesday, CHP says
A pedestrian was struck and killed early Tuesday morning on Highway 16 in Yolo County, west of Woodland, according to the California Highway Patrol.
CHP officers responded just before 1:30 a.m. to a crash on westbound Highway 16, west of Interstate 505, the CHP Woodland office said in a news release.
Investigators determined a 2007 Nissan, driven westbound on Highway 16 by a Woodland man, struck a pedestrian. The person was pronounced dead at the scene, according to the news release. There are no marked crosswalks on that stretch of Highway 16, which ends in Esparto.
The incident remains under investigation and it is unknown whether drugs or alcohol played a factor, but the CHP says the Nissan driver was not arrested.
No identifying details were available for the pedestrian, who will be identified by the Yolo County Coroner’s Office pending notification of family.
