Firefighters called back to scene after Woodland home catches fire twice in one night

Woodland firefighters had to return to the scene of a house fire early Wednesday when a hotspot in the attic flared up several hours after the initial blaze was extinguished.

The first fire was reported at 6:09 p.m. in the 100 block of Antelope Street. Fire Marshal Emily Walling said firefighters arrived to find a fully involved garage fire. A woman inside the home at the time was able to get out safely.

Firefighters remained at the scene for about three hours and moved stored items out of the garage, Walling said. An engine crew checked the home for flare-ups around midnight, Walling said, but it wasn’t until about 3:30 a.m. that a caller reported the home was on fire again.

Firefighters returned to the scene and quickly knocked down the flames. Occupants of the home had vacated the property after the initial fire.

The cause of the first fire is under investigation. Walling said the second fire was likely caused by a hotspot in the attic.
