Large sideshow in south Sacramento draws hundreds and leads to man’s arrest, CHP says

A man was arrested and one law enforcement vehicle was damaged Sunday evening after a large sideshow took place in south Sacramento, the California Highway Patrol said.

Officers responded to the area of Florin Road and Palmer House Drive at 6:05 p.m. after receiving reports of the sideshow. When they arrived, they determined more than 100 vehicles and 300 people were involved, CHP said.

“While attempting to stop the sideshow activity, a black Chevy Camaro attempted to evade capture from a CHP unit and fled the scene,” CHP said.

The Camaro fled westbound traveling head-on toward another CHP unit. The officer saw the oncoming Camaro, turned left and stopped as it approached, partially blocking it. The Camaro then struck the right rear of the patrol vehicle and lost its right front tire, coming to a rest not far from the crash scene.

The driver, 18-year-old Christian Alvarado Michaca of Santa Rosa, was taken into custody and booked into the Sacramento County Main Jail on suspicion of felony evasion, CHP said.

Two juvenile passengers, 17 and 16 years old, were transported to a local hospital for medical treatment.
