Sacramento weekend guide: Watch ‘Shrek the Musical,’ shop vintage or catch a free movie

The start to a new month is a great excuse for Sacramentans to relax and enjoy the spring, which is now well underway. Rain showers and some hail welcomed the season Monday, and temperatures over the last few days have been slightly cooler compared to last week.

Forecasts for this weekend show mostly sunny skies with a high of 79 degrees on Saturday and 76 on Sunday. Temperatures are predicted to drop significantly at night, with lows around the high 40s.

Watch a musical

Watch the beloved children’s animated film “Shrek” come to life in a musical production this weekend. “Shrek the Musical,” performed by youth drama group the River City Theatre Company, takes place over the next two weekends at Natomas High School in Sacramento. Tickets, available on Eventbrite, are $12 per person. Friday’s show begins at 7 p.m.

Enroll in a cheese making class

4932 Shady Leaf Way, Sacramento

Learn more about cheese in this intermediate- to advanced-level cheese making course at Scratch Made Life. This class will teach you how to make your own cultures, cultivate molds and how to wax molds for different types of cheese. The fee to enroll in the course is $40 — spots are limited.
