Sacramento weekend guide: Shop local, visit a state park and hunt for Easter eggs

Sacramento is swapping last weekend’s warm sunny weather with clouds and potential rain.

But that shouldn’t stop your weekend plans, especially if you plan to celebrate Easter or the start of Passover on Friday with a Seder gathering.

Here are a couple of activities to fill your weekend from Friday, April 15 to Sunday, April 17:

Friday

PICK UP FRESH PRODUCE AT A FARMERS’ MARKET

Stock up on your favorite fruits, vegetables, dairy and proteins at one of Sacramento’s several weekend farmers’ market.

Depending on the the spot, the city has farmers markets open all weekend.

Baker’s Donuts is gearing up for more chain competition, The Bee reported this week. The shop has unique flavors like ube, Fruity Pebbles, maple-bacon and cookie butter. It also has cinnamon rolls, croissant-donuts pastries and a range of coffee drinks.

You can use your California public library card to pick up a park pass. It can get you into one of the more than 200 state parks participating in the California State Library Park Pass program.

If you don’t have a library card, you can pick one up at your nearest public library along with the park pass — both are free.

The number of days a person can hold on to a pass is determined by the library. State libraries, including mobile libraries, have passes available for checkout. Be sure to check the library’s guidelines and polices for returning passes.

SEDER GATHERINGS

Passover, a Jewish holiday also known as Pesach, is observed for several days and commemorates the exodus of Jewish people from slavery in Egypt. Friday begins Passover with Seder, a special dinner. Here are a couple of Seder gatherings in Sacramento this weekend:

Location: 945 Evelyn Lane, Sacramento

Chabad of Sacramento will hold a Seder gathering at 7:30 p.m. on Friday and Saturday following evening services. You can RSVP online.

Location: 302 S Lexington Dr., Folsom

Chabad Jewish Community Center will hold a community gathering 7 p.m., Friday.

Saturday

SHOP FOR A NEW PLANT

Location: 4578 Parkridge Rd., Sacramento

You can sift through flowers, shrubs, houseplants, herbs and vegetables from the Sacramento Perennial Plant Club at its pop-up plant sale. The plant sale is open from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.

VISIT AN EASTER-INSPIRED PARK EVENT

Location: Fourth Avenue Park - 4040 4th Ave., Sacramento

You can celebrate Easter weekend at Fourth Avenue Park with a community egg hunt, food trucks and vendors, face painting, a bounce house and more.

The free family-friendly event runs from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.

TAKE THE FAMILY ON AN EASTER EGG HUNT

Location: Haggin Oaks Golf Complex - 3645 Fulton Ave., Sacramento

The Haggin Oaks Golf Complex and the Morton Golf Foundation is hosting its 25th annual Easter egg hunt and pancake breakfast. The free family-friendly event will be a range of activities: egg hunt, breakfast, photos with the Easter Bunny and more.

The event kicks off at 9 a.m. with free sidewalk chalk painting, followed by free breakfast and an egg hunt for kids 10 and under.
