Here are weekend events in Sacramento: Arts, culture, sports and live music

Sacramento offers something for everyone — whether you’re into sports, music, entertainment, arts or culture. We’ve compiled a list of weekend events. Some are free, others require tickets. Here’s what’s happening Friday through Sunday in the Sacramento area.

Darius Rucker at The Venue

Grammy-winning country artist Darius Rucker is scheduled to perform at The Venue at Thunder Valley Casino Resort, 1200 Athens Ave. in Lincoln, at 7:30 p.m. Friday.

Rucker first made noise in the music industry as a lead singer for 1980s rock band Hootie & The Blowfish. He transitioned into a solo career in 2001 and continues to record music. Rucker is best known for songs like “Beers and Sunshine”, “Fires Don’t Start Themselves” and “Wagon Wheel” a cover song originally sung by Bob Dylan.

Tickets start at $79.95, according to the Thunder Valley Resort website, which links to Ticketmaster.

Cincinnati Reds at Athletics

The Athletics host the Cincinnati Reds at Sutter Health Park in West Sacramento in a three-game weekend series starting at 7:05 p.m. Friday and Saturday.

The A’s will induct the Class of 2025 into the Athletics Hall of Fame which includes the legendary trio of Tim Hudson, Mark Mulder and Barry Zito, along with former Kansas City and Oakland A’s broadcaster Monte Moore.

The series concludes at 1:05 p.m. Sunday. Attendees will receive a throwback T-shirt featuring caricatures of Hudson, Mulder and Zito.

Tickets for Friday’s game start at $27, according to Ticketmaster.

This Thing of Ours Art Gallery featuring Jackish

This Thing of Ours is a free rooftop art exhibit held on a helicopter pad at 300 Capitol Mall in downtown.

It marks the solo debut of artist Derek Lynch, known as Jackish, and will showcase a multidisciplinary mix of painting, sculpture, mixed media and object design.

The event is presented by Lynch Laboratories, led by brothers Damian, Derek and Donovon Lynch. It’s their first event as a group.

“We all have history in the creative world in some way, and this is our first time coming together to produce something with us three,” Damian Lynch said. “We’re hoping to do something cool and different, show off my brother’s art and build something that we can continue to do year in and year out, moving forward with very unique locations and cool artists.”

The free pop-up art exhibit starts at 10 a.m to 11 p.m. Saturday and 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Sunday. Light refreshments will be available for purchase.

Country in the Park 2

Country in the Park 2, presented by KNCI 105.1 FM, is bringing country stars to the Racetrack Grandstand at Cal Expo, 1600 Exposition Blvd.

Performers include Jordan Davis, Mitchell Tenpenny, Avery Anna, Locash and Vincent Mason.

General admission tickets start at $65. There is a $20 parking fee for this event. The concert begins at 1 p.m. Saturday.

Lucky Strike holds launch party

Lucky Strikes bowling alley, formerly Strikes Unlimited, at 5681 Lonetree Blvd. in Rocklin will have its launch party Sunday following the entertainment center’s rebrand. The rebranding was first announced in June.

Guests will receive one free game of bowling, complimentary snacks while supplies last and a $10 arcade card.

The remodeled venue features black lights, lounge seating, video walls at each lane and lane-side food and drink service.

The event is from noon to 3 p.m. Sunday.

Jordans & Jerseys Day Party

If you’re in the mood for a Sunday day-party celebration filled with music, dancing and food, the Jordans and Jersey Day Party hosted by Our Place has you covered.

The event is happening at Our Place Kitchen and Event Space, located at 1107 Firehouse Alley in Old Sacramento.

The event is for ages 21 and older. Tickets are available for $10 on Eventbrite and at the door of the event from 4 to 5 p.m.

Other weekend events to consider:

The 3rd Annual Sangria Showdown, Sky River Casino’s 32 Brew Street, 1 Sky River Parkway, Elk Grove. Event time: 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Tickets start at $60.

Comedian Shuler King performs at Punch Line Comedy Club, 2100 Arden Way, Suite 225, in Arden Arcade. Showtimes are 7 p.m. Friday, 7 p.m. and 9:15 p.m. Saturday and 7 p.m. Sunday. Tickets start at $38.

Comedian Rob Little will perform at Laughs Unlimited Comedy Club and Lounge, 1207 Front St., in Old Sacramento at 7 p.m. and 9:30 p.m. on Friday and Saturday. Tickets start at $29.

Sacramento State football plays a home opener against Mercyhurst University at Hornet Stadium. The game starts at 6 p.m. Saturday. Tickets start at $30 for adults, $15 for children age 3 to 12.

Ciao Folsom is a free, Italian-inspired farmer’s market at Sutter Street Plaza – Railroad Turntable in Folsom. The event is from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturday.

The 14th Annual CruiseFest features more than 400 classic and custom cars cruising a one-mile loop on Fulton Avenue from 3 p.m to 5 p.m. on Saturday in Arden Arcade. A car show will continue from 5 to 7 p.m. The event is free and open to the public. There will be a variety of food trucks, a beer garden and select local vendors.

Wine Fest offers unlimited wine tasting at Painkillers Pub, 2168 Sunset Blvd. in Rocklin. The event begins at 3 p.m. Tickets start at $10.

NBA Youngboy will perform live in concert at Golden 1 Center in Sacramento at 7 p.m. Tickets start at $165.

Torch Club hosts Sunday jam sessions with local band The Lab Rats, starting at 8 p.m.
