Live performances, parades and sports: Sacramento’s weekend rundown
We’re inching closer and closer to the weekend, which means it’s time to start making plans on how to spend a couple of days off.
Despite a little drizzle that poured down in Sacramento this week, the weather is expected to be relatively dry throughout the weekend.
According to the National Weather Service office in Sacramento, expect mostly sunny days through the course of the days as the high temperature reaches the low 70s.
Break out those hoodies and puffer jackets as the temperature drops to the low 50s come nightfall with mostly cloudy skies filling the night.
Here’s what’s in store this weekend around the Sacramento region:
Sacramento State Aathletics
The Sacramento State Hornets athletics will be busy this weekend starting Thursday as women’s basketball hosts Nevada at 11 a.m. Single-game general admission tickets start at $17, youth tickets are $12.
The Lady Hornets are coming off of a historic debut, trampling past Stanton University of Southern California, an NAIA school, 124-39, to give coach Aaron Kallhoff his 100th career victory as a head coach.
The Mike Bibby-led men’s basketball team will host William Jessup University at 7 p.m. Friday. They are coming off a 103-79 victory against Division II Dominican University of the Bay Area, giving Bibby his career win as a collegiate head coach.
Single-game general admission tickets to the men’s game start at $32.
Sacramento State football searches for a bounce back win following their loss to Montana, a needed victory to stay alive in the FCS playoff hunt. As the Hornets go on the road to face Portland State, there will be a watch party starting at 1:45 p.m. at BarWest, 2724 J St., in midtown Sacramento.
Godfrey at Punchline
Comedian Godfrey is performing this weekend at Punchline Sacramento, 2100 Arden Way, Suite 225, beginning 7:30 p.m. Thursday. Tickets start at $38.
Godfrey is known for his comedic remarks and gestures on the topics of personal stories, social commentary and sharp observations. He’s made appearances and starred in TV shows and movies such as Law & Order: Special Victims Unit, Soul Plane and Black Dynamite.
He will also perform at 7 p.m. and 9:15 p.m. Friday and Saturday.
Trevor Noah at Thunder Valley
Comedian Trevor Noah, known for his past work on Comedy Central’s “The Daily Show,” is coming to Thunder Valley Casino Resort, 1200 Athens Ave., in Lincoln for a standup comedy show at 8 p.m. Friday.
Noah, a South African comedian, writer, producer, political commentator, actor, and television host, has appeared in movies as well such as “Black Panther,” “Black Panther: Wakanda Forever” and “Coming 2 America.”
Tickets for Noah’s show at Thunder Valley start at $65, according to Ticketmaster.
Kings host Thunder in NBA In-Season tournament
The Sacramento Kings will welcome defending NBA champions Oklahoma City Thunder at 7 p.m. Friday when they host their first NBA In-Season tournament game of the year.
It’s the first of four qualifying games to determine if they’ll advance to the qualifying rounds. The semifinals and finals to crown the NBA Cup champion will be in December.
Tickets to Friday’s game against the Thunder start at $40 on Ticketmaster.
Diana Ross at Thunder Valley
The legendary singer and actress Diana Ross, known as “Queen of Motown”, will perform at Thunder Valley Casino Resort, 1200 Athens Ave., in Lincoln at 8 p.m. Saturday.
Ross, the lead singer of vocal group The Supremes, has a career that dates back to the 1960s. Her music has spanned across decades and stood the test of time with hits such as “Ain’t No Mountain High Enough”, “Upside Down”, “Endless Love” and “I’m Coming Out”.
Tickets to see Diana Ross start at $135, according to Ticketmaster.
Earl Sweatshirt at Ace of Spades
Rapper and producer Earl Sweatshirt will perform at Ace of Spades, 1417 R St., for his 3L world tour at 7 p.m. Sunday.
Born as Thebe Neruda Kgositsile, Earl Sweatshirt recently released his fifth studio album Live Laugh Love in August, which features songs like “GSW vs Sac”, “Infatuation” and “Live”. His album features vocals from the likes of Black Noise, Child Actor and Erykah Badu.

Destin Conrad performs a R&B concert at Ace of Spades, 7 p.m. Thursday. Tickets start at $39 on Ticketmaster.
The 59th National Mother Lode Exhibit highlights over 95 pieces of art beginning 2 p.m. to 7 p.m. Thursday and Friday. It continues from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday. The event is free and located at Mills Station Arts and Cultural Center, 10191 Mills Station Road in Rancho Cordova.
Taproot New Music Festival features six to eight composers gathering at Pitzer Center Recital Hall on the campus of UC Davis for various music performances at 7:30 p.m. Friday and Saturday. Tickets range from $12 to $27.50.
How the Grinch Stole Christmas The Musical Jr. performed by Musical Mayhem Productions at Cosumnes Oaks High School, 8350 Lotz Pkwy in Elk Grove. Showtimes are 7 p.m. Friday and 2 and 7 p.m. Saturday. Tickets range from $12 to $25.
Child Action’s Harvest Festival is a free family-friendly event that features autumn fun, food, and community cheer from 10 a.m. to noon Saturday. The event is located at 10540 White Rock Road in Rancho Cordova. Tickets will be sold at the door.
2nd Annual Native American Heritage Month Parade honors Native American culture in a free parade event filled with floats, vehicles, horses, marchers and cultural performers. The parade begins at 5th Street and Capitol Mall. The event is from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday.
Thresholds features intricate vessels and craftsmanship of Louise McGowan Bezark at Arthouse on R Gallery, 1021 R St. in Sacramento from 5 to 8 p.m. Saturday. Admission is free.
Kings host Timberwolves at 6 p.m. Sunday in the team’s third of a five-game homestand that began with the Warriors on Wednesday. Tickets start at $31 on Ticketmaster.
