Thanksgiving is around the corner — and prices this year are expected to be higher than average. It may be difficult to find a decent-priced turkey.

Here’s a guide to where to pick up free turkey and turkey gift certificates, Thanksgiving baskets and what turkey deals are being offered at stores like Target, Wegmans, Whole Foods and more in the Sacramento area:

Free turkey options

Bridge Network

Offering free turkeys and turkey gift certificates. First come, first serve.

Stockton Boulevard Partnership

Time: 9 a.m. to 11 a.m., Saturday, Nov. 20

One turkey per car and you must stay in your vehicle and wear a mask. The event will continue while supplies last.

Sunrise Christian Food Ministry

Time: 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., Thursday, Nov. 18 to Friday, Nov. 19.

One turkey will be provided to clients, along with thanksgiving fixings. Meals will be provided on a first come first serve basis.

Fair Oaks Food Bank - Orangevale

Time: 11 a.m. to 2:30 p.m., Monday, Nov. 22.

The food bank will be distributing Thanksgiving baskets to families in need in Sacramento County. One fresh or frozen turkey and side items will be given to each family. Food donations will be accepted.

Pre-registration is required. Clients will be given a designated time for pick up.

Locations offering Thanksgiving baskets

There will be a variety of holiday food provided at the Sacramento Food Bank and Family Services affiliated distribution sites. But there is no guarantee on the type of food each client will receive.

All food is first come first serve. Call the distribution sites for questions related to turkeys. All sites are open to everyone, with no fee.

Sites are open at various dates and times leading up to Nov. 25.

Discounted turkey options

GROCERY OUTLET

Grab a turkey as low as 53 cents per lb with a Grocery Outlet store coupon for $14 off a Jennie-O 14 to 16 lb frozen turkey with a minimum $30 purchase.

Valid between Nov. 17 to Nov. 25. In store only and while supplies last.

TARGET

Target is selling frozen turkeys at a discounted rate per lb with same-day order service.

Purchase frozen Butterball whole turkeys for between $1.99 per lb or Good and Gather basted young turkeys for between 79 cents to $1.99 per lb.

Or purchase regular priced frozen Butterball turkeys for between $2.79 per lb and Good and Gather basted young frozen turkeys for between $1.39 to $1.59 per lb.

WEGMANS

Wegmans offers several frozen turkey options including special prices with minimum purchase.

Those with Shopper’s Club Cards who spend a $25 minimum, including the price of a turkey, can buy a 10 to 24 lb frozen Shady Brook turkey as low as 39 per lb or a 10 to 28 lb Wegmans brand antibiotic-free turkey for 99 cents per lb.

Frozen turkeys will be on sale until Nov. 22.

Regular shoppers can buy Wegmans’ brand turkeys for as low as $2.79 per lb. The most expensive frozen turkey will cost $4.89 per lb.

WHOLE FOODS

Amazon Prime members save on whole turkeys and organic whole turkeys through Nov. 25.

Buy a Whole Foods market turkey for $1.99 per lb or an organic turkey for $2.99 per lb, both $1 cheaper than the regular price.

WALMART

Walmart is selling Butterball frozen young turkeys for 98 cents per lb for 10 to 16 and 16 to 24 lb birds. And 16 to 39 lb Jennie-O young turkeys are also for sale for 87 cents per lb.

A Butterball whole frozen turkey breast is $2.28 per lb for a 5.5 to 8.5 lb bag.
