Back Door Lounge in Old Sacramento remains closed after re-inspection, county says
The Back Door Lounge in the Old Sacramento waterfront area remained closed Saturday after inspectors found cockroaches in two separate inspections, according to county officials.
A red placard marked “closed” appeared Thusrday on the door to the restaurant and bar, located in Firehouse Alley.
The inspection report remained unavailable Saturday, but the closure was due to cockroaches, according to Kelly McCoy, a spokeswoman for Sacramento County’s Environmental Management Department.
“It was a vermin closure for cockroaches,” McCoy said in an email to The Sacramento Bee confirming the closure.
The restaurant was reinspected Friday, but did not pass according to the county’s inspection website. The county data indicated it had not passed for the same reasons as Thursday’s closure.
Phone calls seeking comment from Back Door management, went unanswered Friday. On Saturday, a person who answered the phone at the lounge simply said “nope” when asked if the establishment was open.
A search on the county environmental department’s website for food facility inspections does not list any other recent closures due to failed inspections at Back Door.
In early October, the nearby Firehouse Restaurant was closed twice in a span of five days due to cockroaches, after an inspection and reinspection each turned up “vermin and animal contamination” issues, the county said. The restaurant reopened one day after the second closure.
