Temple Coffee to open in East Sacramento within the next two weeks, will serve gelato
A longstanding third-wave coffee shop will make its mark in one of Sacramento’s oldest residential neighborhoods within the next two weeks.
Temple Coffee Roasters will open at 4201 H St. in East Sacramento on March 14, creative director Vincent Sosa confirmed in an email Tuesday. Founded in 2005, the cafe has six other locations throughout the region, the newest of which opened last summer at 1615 16th St. in the 16 Powerhouse apartment building.
Temple CEO and founder Sean Kohmescher has been scouting East Sacramento for a location for years, Sosa said, but wanted a standalone neighborhood building instead of something connected to a larger shopping center. He got that at 4201 H St., which used to house Uncle Bill’s TV Repair & Service and is two blocks from Mercy General Hospital.
“Unlike Temple’s other locations that exist in the more bustling parts of Downtown and Midtown Sacramento, the new cafe will reflect the quaint and serene setting that the East Sacramento neighborhood is known,” Sosa wrote in an email. “The hope is for Temple Coffee H Street to compliment the small-town feel of the area.”
Temple will offer a range of seasonally-rotating gelato flavors from Devine Gelateria & Cafe, opening the door for affogato and cold brew floats, Sosa said. The East Sacramento cafe will also carry locally-baked pastries, including vegan and gluten-free options, to pair with espresso, teas and nitro cold brew on tap.
The new cafe will have two rooms, one for ordering and another for sitting. The seating will center around a custom-built, 24-foot cedar table spanning the entire length of the room, according to a news release. Cedar was also used for the cafe’s paneling, while large windows and wooden furnishings aim to give it something of a Lost Coast feel.
“The goal was to bring the brightness and serene quality of the Northern California coast to East Sacramento,” Kohmescher said in the release. “The color scheme, fixtures, and furniture are minimal yet classic, creating a timeless space that is familiar and inviting.”
